bulletBY TELECOMMUNICATIONS
The telecommunications infrastructure meets all European standards.
bulletBY ROAD
Slovenia has a well-developed road system. Ljubljana can be reached from the major central European cities of Munich, Milan, Vienna and Budapest in less than five hours. A quick and trouble-free entry into Slovenia is facilitated by numerous border crossings. 
bulletBY RAIL
The Slovenian railway in connected to the European rail network. Slovenia is served also by Eurocity and car trains. The museum train is a tourist attraction of Slovenia's railway.
bulletBY AIR
Slovenia has three international airports: Ljubljana-Brnik, Maribor and Portoroz plus many sports airfields. The national carrier is Adria Airways. Ljubljana airport regular connections with almost all capitals and larger cities in Europe.
bulletBY SEA
There is a regular hydrofoil service between Venice and Portoroz. Tourists with their own boats can moor in one of the four Slovenian marinas: Portoroz, Koper, Izola or Piran. The largest port is Koper, which is designed primarily for goods transport.

Slovenia - A Green Treasure Trove in the Heart of Europe

bulletSEASIDE TOURISM
The Slovenian coast is alive and sparkling with little seaside towns, beaches and great opportunities for sports and recreation. Along the coast there are four marinas offering 1000 moorings, plus an international tourist airport.
bulletWINTER TOURISM
There are over 50 ski resorts in Slovenia. There are also a great many cross-country ski tracks. In spring, particularly in the Julian Alps, it is possible to go ski-touring.
bulletHILL WALKING
Over 7000 km of marked mountain and other footpaths offer excellent conditions for walking and trekking. A European hiking trail also traverses Slovenia. 
bulletHEALTH RESORTS
In beautiful natural surroundings there are 16 health resorts with a rich tradition and top quality service. The visitor is offered hotels and apartments, curative waters, health and cosmetic service, bathing pools, sport halls and walks in nature.

There are attractive old town centres preserved in Ljubljana, Skofja Loka, Ptuj, Kostanjevica, Stanjel, Piran, Koper, Vipava and elsewhere.

You can visit countless interesting galleries, museums, theatres, operas, philharmonic societies, jazz and rock concerts. You can also take in the International Graphics Biennial, the International Summer Festival and the Biennial of Industrial Design.

The country is dotted with castles. Many of them are preserved or restored, while others stand ruined as silent witnesses of the past. The most famous castles, but not the only ones to be preserved, are Ptuj, Otocec, Jamski grad, Bled, Ljubljana and Laski Grad.

The Karst has over 6000 limestone caves, including the famous Postojna and Skocjan caves. It is possible to visit 110 of them.

The attractive forested countryside is ideally suited for horseback excursions. You can ride at more than twenty horse-riding centres and schools.

Extensive forests with protected game and breeding game parks offer excellent possibilities for hunting. Unspoilt rivers and lakes attract fishing and fly-fishing enthusiasts.

You can also try your luck. Ten state-of-the-art gaming houses are an attraction for lovers of roulette and others games of chance.

There are plenty opportunities for playing tennis in easily accessible courts, both open-air and covered. Many courts are located at hotels.

The colorful, diverse and lively countryside was almost made for viewing from the air. Air taxis are available for tours of Slovenia - you can choose your own route. You can Han glide and paraglide from numerous hills. There are also 11 sports airfields.

Slovenia's congress tradition goes back to the year 1821. Ljubljana, Bled, Portoroz, Radenci and Rogaska offer the most advanced conference facilities.

Kayaking and rafting can be enjoyed on clean, fresh rivers: the Soca, the upper reaches of the Sava, Krka, Kolpa and others.

Slovenia - Information on Crossing the Border

bulletBORDER CROSSINGS
Slovenia has 61 international and local road, rail and other border crossings with Italy, 47 with Austria, 4 with Hungary and 34 with Croatia. In addition to this Slovenia has three maritime and three air border posts.
bulletVISAS, PASSPORTS
A valid passport is sufficient for a visit to Slovenia on business or as a tourist, provided your stay does not exceed three months. Citizens of EC countries may enter Slovenia without a passport, provided they apply for a tourist pass producing their identification card or other valid personal document at the border. Anyone who is required to have a visa to enter Slovenia may obtain one at the Slovenian representation in their country of directly at the border crossing.
bulletGREEN CARDS
A green card (international vehicle insurance) must be carried by all foreign drivers on their entry into Slovenia, with the exception of those from countries with which Slovenia has a special agreement. Foreign citizens without a green card my obtain short-term insurance in Slovenia.
bulletCUSTOMS
Foreigners may bring into Slovenia and take away their personal property without payment of customs duties. At the majority of border crossings there are duty free shops.
